                                                                                       (Updated 06/17/05)

The OEM Duke Toxicology Program provides  a 24 hour toxicological information service for emergency rooms and poison control centers.  This program provides the generic formula information on behalf of ACMI members to Micromedex to ensure that the requirement of registering with a poison control network has been met.  This responsibility previously fell to the individual member.  The Art and Creative Materials Institute supplies to Micromedex on a quarterly basis a complete list of all certified non-toxic products which carry the AP seal.  In place of generic formula information on non-toxic products, the POISINDEX database will now list the brand name and certification status only.  If additional information is required by poison control centers or medical personnel, a toll free number is also available that provides 24 hour coverage by the Duke Toxicology Staff.  We will supply poison control centers that do not subscribe to POISINDEX information about our 24 hour coverage for non-toxic product information. For products which carry the CL label, the generic formula will be verified by Dr. Stopford.   The Duke Toxicology Program will make the submissions of these generic formulas directly to Micromedex.

Micromedex offers knowledge bases for healthcare, safety and the environment.  This includes the most complete and easily accessed collection of chemical, hazard, environmental, regulatory, medical and drug information available.  The POISINDEX System assists medical personnel and poison control centers when responding to emergency situations.  The database contains more than 1000 detailed management documents providing information on clinical effects, range of toxicity, and treatment protocols for the handling of exposures to specific substances listed, as well as general categories of substances.  The Duke Toxicology Program offers the enhancement of the 24 hour toll free emergency number made available to any poison control center or medical professional that subscribes to the POISINDEX database.   This database is distributed by Micromedex to all poison control centers in the United States.  POISINDEX is also available in Canada.
